Now, crews are working on the last of the essential construction activities needed to reopen the bridge. Work over the next week will include:
- Setting up rebar for the concrete bridge railings
- Constructing the bridge approaches
- Pouring curbs and gutters
- Paving the roadway at both ends leading up to the bridge
There may be some time when you will not see crews working as they wait for the deck to cure.
Anticipate reopening week of Labor Day
Once the deck finishes curing, crews will complete finishing touches. Then the bridge will reopen to traffic. If all goes well and we continue to have favorable weather, the new bridge may be open to traffic Labor Day week.
After the bridge reopens, crews will continue to be onsite. As a result, there may be some limited impacts on travel through the area.

Channel remains open; anticipate five-day closure in September
The Narrows Channel remains open for people boating. There will be one more five-day, non-weekend channel closure in September to allow crews to complete work underneath the bridge.
We will inform people of the closure ahead of time via email updates, on the project website and signage at the channel.
MnDOT’s Highway 7 closure moved to early September
Minnesota Department of Transportation's Highway 7 slope repair and drainage project in Victoria is now scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 26.
There will be closures on Highway 7 starting as early as Wednesday, September 2. As a result, we anticipate the project closures may overlap. However, the timing means there should be less overlapping time than we originally expected.
For more information and to sign up to receive the latest updates on the upcoming Highway 7 project and closures, go to MnDOT's project website.
