Saga Hill Nature Area Trail surrounded by tress

N2K Feature: Saga Hill Nature Area

Some of the first European settlers from Sweden homesteaded the area with land around Saga Hill.  Saga hill to this day serves to step back in time and enjoy nature and the big woods as it used to be.

Recently the Park Commission & Orono City Council added signage to tell the history of Saga Hill and removed large amounts of buckthorn and other invasive species so native growth could thrive.

Fast Facts:

  • 28 acres of wooded natural area with unimproved paths
  • ½ the property is protected by a DNR conservation easement to protect its natural and scenic resources
  • Saga Hill sits atop the highest point in western Hennepin County
