Carbon
monoxide (CO) poisoning, otherwise known as the Silent Killer due to its
inability to be detected by the human senses, is the number-one cause of
accidental poisoning deaths in the United States.

Carbon Monoxide Safety Tips
- Install a carbon monoxide alarm on every
level of your home and in sleeping areas.
- Have all fossil fuel-burning appliances
and HVAC systems inspected annually by a licensed technician to ensure
they are in working order.
- Keep chimneys and flues clear from
debris such as leaves and animal nests.
- Never use household appliances as a
source of heat, and never use generators indoors, even during a power
outage.
- Should your CO alarm sound, train your
family to exit your home and call 911 or the fire department.
- Teach your family to take all CO alarms
seriously. Just because no one exhibits signs of poisoning, it
doesn't mean that they are safe.
