Weight Restrictions are in Effect During the "Spring Thaw Season" - Usually March 1st   to May 15th - Dependent on Weather Conditions - However Orono May be Off a Day or Two On Either End.

Weight Restrictions

bulletEach year the City of Orono ordains that the axle weight limits are restricted on certain streets in the City of Orono to protect these streets from damage when road and weather conditions warrant.

bulletMost City streets will be posted and limited to FOUR TON AXLE per axle weight limit.  This is something to think about if you are planning on moving or doing construction in the area.  You would be forced to use smaller trucks during the "spring thaw season".

Dates

bulletWeight restrictions take effect during the "spring thaw season", which is usually March 1st to May 15th, dependent upon the weather.  Orono follows the Seasonal Load Limits established by the State of Minnesota.  Check the MN/Dot website listed below:

Exemptions

bulletNo exemptions or permits are given during this time period, except for emergency vehicles and utility company service vehicles.  For detailed information on exemptions please review the attached resolution.

Streets Effected

bulletOrono only regulates the streets listed on this resolution.  All County roads are regulated by Hennepin County and Highway 12 is regulated by the State.  Check the MN/Dot website listed below.  Private roads are not regulated by the City, but by the homeowners associations, or persons in charge of that development.  The City does not maintain any information on contracts for private roads.
