Bags
& Bags of Leaves & Grass?
Don't dump your leaves & grass into the lake! Organic
material from yards is the #1 pollutant in urban lakes. Dumping
leaves & grass clippings into our lakes, streams, rivers & storm drains
pollutes them! Check out the
DNR website for the detailed article of what happens.

Remember state
law prohibits
disposal of leaves & grass clippings in landfills or solid waste
facilities. Check out the suggestions below on how to dispose of, or
reuse your leaves & grass clippings.

Turn Clippings Into Compost
Composting is a great way to recycle leaves & grass into new soil for
your lawn or garden. Spreading finished compost over your lawn helps
to improve plant root growth and helps hold in water & nutrients. For
resource information on how to compost, check out our
compost page.

Check with Local Garbage Hauler
Some garbage haulers will pick up leaves and grass clippings as part of
residential service. Most haulers will pick up for an additional fee
but may have some conditions such as: bagging & sorting the clippings.

 |
Hire a Professional
Check the local phone book for Lawn or Yard Care Professionals. If
you are willing to pay for these services, they will do the work and often haul
away debris. This will give you time to sip lemonade and enjoy your
time off!

 |
Take to Disposal Sites
These places will charge a fee. There are sites that are open year-round
for your convenience. Check out the
leaf & grass
disposal page
for locations.

Have Fun!
Revert back to childhood, or involve your children. In the fall,
before disposing of those unwanted leaves make a leaf pile (the bigger the
better) & jump in!
Make a scarecrow, all it takes is a stick, some old clothes and plenty of
leaves! This will be useful in a garden or for a fall decoration!
Make a craft project. Try pounding leaves on muslin and then make
something with it. This will give you a keepsake to last a lifetime!
Go on a leaf adventure, try finding as many different styles & colors as
possible. Your kids will love it!
