Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, otherwise known as the Silent Killer due to its inability to be detected by the human senses, is the number-one cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the United States.

 Carbon Monoxide Safety Tips

  1. Install a carbon monoxide alarm on every level of your home and in sleeping areas.
  2. Have all fossil fuel-burning appliances and HVAC systems inspected annually by a licensed technician to ensure they are in working order.
  3. Keep chimneys and flues clear from debris such as leaves and animal nests.
  4. Never use household appliances as a source of heat, and never use generators indoors, even during a power outage.
  5. Should your CO alarm sound, train your family to exit your home and call 911 or the fire department.
  6. Teach your family to take all CO alarms seriously.  Just because no one exhibits signs of poisoning, it doesn't mean that they are safe.
